Hi, Matt. -=> MATT MC_CARTHY wrote to ROY J. TELLASON <=- MM> The numbers are so screwed up on modern chips, I've given up completely MM> trying to understand them. :-(( Ain't _that_ the truth? Seems like there _could_ be some sort of uniformity within the industry. I've recently been purchasing an assortment of SDRAM dimms for use at the NPO where I volunteer. A lot of them are by Micron, and I've found their stick-numbering code at the Micron website, but I haven't been able to find their chip-numbering code. Question came up about that recently, when my favorite Ebay seller shipped me a 32MB stick in place of a 128. Even Micron's stick-numbering code isn't super-helpful, as it has info on there about speed and latencies, but not the overall memory capacity. Here's a 64MB stick - - it has "PC100-322-620" on the paper label, but nothing directly points to it being a 64MB stick. I could probably try to deduce the chip code by taking an assortment of Micron sticks of various capacities, and tabulating and comparing the numbers on the chips. I've delayed doing that because the Micron markings on the chips are quite difficult to read, even with a magnifying glass. (Kinda like some of the Intel markings on their chipsets). - - - JimH. ...
