I replied netmail but think this bears repeating. I went around
for about ten days calling GTE support 3 times and speaking to
5 techs, while they were all polite and tried their best it was
the last, John who provided exactly the same advise you provide
above. Four comma's did it and I'm going to muck around with the
init now that I know the problem is, I miss dial on demand.
probably buy a kflex in January, either Hayes or Supra.
Heard ModemSurfers can fail to hang up after answering and
will have to check again on the Supra, the GTE tech told me
it was hardware compression and error correcting but I seem
to recall from surfing it's not Unix compatable. I am buying
Linux and reference books for X-mas so this is important.
Could've save a few days grief if I'd thought to ask you first.
Best regards, Happy Holidays and thanx again.
