-> I have the book, too. To the best of my knowledge, Walt Disney was
-> never called a Christian by anyone, but I could be wrong. I think
-> my position is close to the Apostle Paul's where he was able to eat
-> food that was dedicated to foreign gods. There's no doubt that
-> Disney Company is worldly like many other large companies, but then
-> there are probably a lot of Christians working in that company as
-> well. It's not perfect and does have non-Christian elements. If
-> your spirit is strong enough and discerning enough, then you can
-> take the good without the bad from things of the world. We live in
-> the world, but are not of the world. If you feel God you to
-> actively seek changes to the "Magic Kingdom" then do so. I nothing
-> wrong with Christians working for Disney. After all Bible worked
-> for secular bosses, Joseph to name one. We all need t influence the
-> world, either actively in a mission field, or with lives on the job
-> or on vacation!
I have found several things in the book that were actually wrong - not
just the conclusions that he came up with. He relied heavily on the
"Dark Prince" book which has been reviewed by people in-the-know who say
it is false. One such incident is the alleged time the company took
everyone out of town to celebrate the completion of an animated feature
and they acted out - causing Walt to leave. Pure fiction according to my
sources.
I wasn't really writing about whether Christians should work for Disney
or not. Many strong Christians HAVE worked for Disney (such as Jimmie
Dodd and Dean Jones). I can see no reason why a Christian would want to
question the wisdom of working for Disney. I love all things disnisical
and I find no reason why Christians can't enjoy Disney.
I especially enjoy the movies from the DISNEY label rather than the
other studios (Touchstone, Hollywood, etc.) that Disney owns. I don't
really care for the works of the other studios (except Roger Rabbit) and
wish they would stop trying to compete in the PG-13, R and NC-17 world.
Not only does it get them in trouble, but I've seen detergents leave a
better film (to quote a muppet).
I am only into the mainstream, family Disney product, such as "The Lion
King", "Pocahontas" and "Toy Story". Movies from other companies (even
ones owned by Disney) don't hold the same place in my heart.
