subject: Advice on software

I want to set up an information service which will be free to use

for modem owners. I want to carry databases of information. There should

be some calculated fields in the databases. I want users to be able to get

a welcome screen and a search menu much like a bbs, where they can

seach for information and bundle and download the bits that are of interest

to them. Users should also be able to upload feedback but not be able to

add to some of the databases without approval.

Can anyony point me in the right direction as to what sort of software

I need to do this. At the moment I am running an old XT with a full

20 meg harddisc. I know I will have to upgrade. What is the recommended

hardware I will need to run the required software?

My knowledge of programming and computers is limited. All I know is

selftought from books and "fiddeling around". Would I need to do a course

or could I get by with books and documentations?

Thanks in advance for any advice or pointers

                      in the right direction, Hanns
