Hi Anthony,

AW> I was a supervisor before I left the Navy and the underlings all
AW> hated my guts. I hated the Navy and took it out on those that
AW> couldn't fight back unfortunately. Strangely enough one of
AW> them runs a BBS nowadays, but he has completely ignored my
AW> attempts at civility.

AM>I happened across a navy guy earlier in the year when I bought some
AM>simms off him - Mark Farnan I think. Lived with a bunch of other navy
AM>guys too, in Artarmon. Strange people... ;)

Whispering Jack! He's a fully paid up member of my fan club. In fact I
think he's the number one member ;-)

AM>Dunno if you subscribe to the idea, but I'm not a "morning person" -
AM>in fact, I hate getting up earlier than I absolutely have to. I also
AM>go to bed no earlier than 11:00pm, somewhat later usually. Other
AM>people seem to _like_ getting up at 6am or earlier. One guy I know
AM>gets up at 4am ever morning to feed and look after his horses and
AM>stuff, and doesn't seem to mind. God, I think I;d sooner shoot
AM>myself!

There are definitely morning and evening people. Unfortunately the
blokes in the Navy were neither.

AW> It sounds as if your workplace ticks along fairly well the way it's
AW> organised so my "sackem if they're 7 minutes late"
obviously wouldn't
AW> work in every case. I've only worked for 3 companies in 12 years, so my
AW> opinions are limited by the viewpoints developed from that.

AM>Geeze Alan, I left two very opinionated and one-sided messages for you
AM>and you've taken both of them on the cheek! What do I have to do to
AM>get a bite out of you? Praise the QPF?? ;)

I've never worked in a flexible work situation such as yours, so it's
hard to disagree with someone who's had first hand experience. I bite
pretty well normally, but I've got most of the QPF agro out of my system
at the moment. Bitching about things in here and in Avtech tends to be a
good form of therapy.

AW> That last comment is essentially the gist of it. If you decided to work
AW> to rule, the company would be the big loser time wise.

AM>It's often tempted me! But I like and usually enjoy what I do too
AM>much to treat it like a strictly 9to5 job.

I like my job as well, but aspects of it annoy the hell out of me. I
hate the sick day rorters, and the timesheet rorters. I'm always getting
castigated for "losing hours" on the flex sheet. They seem to think it
would be better for me to have 2.5 hour lunch breaks towards the end of
the month simply to use up the hours. That's simply ridiculous, and is a
typical public service attitude.

Regards, Alan
