A few years back, they 'invented' slip on covers / guards to prevent
inline skates from rolling... while in stores etc... there was an effort
to have them declared ACCEPTABLE by merchants and transit for entry...
as the big problem was people rolling around and running either into people,
things or in the case of subways, off the platform, stairs etc. accidentally.
In Metro Toronto, many people use these things to get around and wish to
go shopping etc. At the time I was last there they were not allowed on
transit (at least without the blade locks)... and the kids would sit on the
step of buses etc. and change... making everyone wait... not pretty...
especially on streetcars where cars were held up too... TTC looked like they
were satisfied with the blocks when informed of their existance at a
ymposium
held on In Line Skating held back then... I've been gone a year and don't
know what happened since... Phil Piltch might know, he was there too!
