subject: ULP/2 v2.28b

Hi Herb,

It's about time somebody writes something in this echo too.

The other day I was reading the text files in the ULP zip's and
came across this statement in the ULP2_228 readme.1st;

There is currently no OS/2 compile so if you are using ULP/2 and
want to upgrade, you are going to need to switch to the DOS version.

To my knowledge ULP2 v2.28b dated Feb. 8 2000 is a 32-bit OS/2 version
which is also confirmed within the EXE file itself and also in the log.

The real reason to start digging into ULP is that I have found that
for example the NODEDIFF file becomes about 1 kb larger when compressed
by ULP than it is on arrival as are most uploaded files.

Looking at the command line for InfoZip's ZIP showed parameter -r etc.
I made it -r9 etc. but the compressed file is still 1 kb larger.

Now I have changed it to -j9 etc. which is the parameter for ZIP in
ZTreeBold but I haven't checked that yet because ULP2 will run again
automatically tomorrow morning.

Also I have checked what difference in size there could be when using
PKZIP v2.50 for OS/2. The compressed nodediff becomes maybe 20 bytes
smaller with PKZIP than with ZIP but OTOH I don't know what parameters
I should use in ULP2.CFG for that program. Any ideas?

Have a nice day,

Holger
