Old rule of thumb: The source should *always* sound as best as
possible.   As for the Hi Fi track, the phase accuracy will be eons
better than either the mono unit's alignment or a stereo liner track
folded to mono.  Besides... The wow/flutter of the Hi Fi track will be
almost unoticable.
