BACKGROUND:
Last May I discovered I was diabetic in a pre-surgery blood test.  This
must have occurred recently, because my serum glucose level was 82
August 99, and had never tested out of the 77-82 range before this May.

As a part of a hobby in 95, I downloaded the 2-3 dozen or so nutrition
dBase databases (#SR13xx) from the USDA, and did some combining and
conversions. One conversion was to put them into Excel format.  The
other was to put them into easy to use serving sizes.  The serving size
conversions were because most of the data was from 100gram test
portions, and I wanted to be able to calculate total nutrients for my
recipies and eating habits.

These databases originally contained about 5,900 foods.  The file
tripled in size to about 17,800 records after I generated new records
that had my serving size records inserted.

I did this about five years ago, and it's been sitting around since.  I
dug it up a few weeks ago due to my new ==>FORCED<== interest in
nutrition.  The data is free for the downloading and freely
distributable, non copywrited. I'm guessing it may be of interest to you
in  the diet and diabetes groups.  If you find the data useful, pass it
on as well as the URLs.

Full USDA Nutrition files Sorted by "Short Description," full 17,900
records and this file broken up alphabetically into 5 files.

All files are about 2 megs in size, and are self extracting to about 4
to 8 megs, except the nuts-a-z.exe which is about 5 megs in size and
expands to 21 megs.

SAMPLE: "A" foods only, all nutrients listed.  File size is 132,158.

SAMPLE: "Foodlist" short description only of the 6,000 foods only,
155,553 in size
