  (Edited for brevity)
  Bill,
    This may not be your problem, but try disabling EMM386. Duke runs
    much better without it. In fact, I have found the easiest way to
    run Duke is to make a boot disk that only has IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS,
    COMMAND.COM, & the following for AUTOEXEC.BAT & CONFIG.SYS.
    (Autoexec.bat)
    ECHO OFF
    SET GALAXY=A220 I7 D1 K10 P530 T6
    SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 T4
    SET SOUND=C:\STELLAR
    C:\STELLAR\UTILITY\VOLSET /V:10 /X:10 /F:10 /C:14 /L:14 /M:0 /R:M
    SET PATH=C:\DOS;C:\;C:\MOUSE
    SET MSINPUT=C:\MSINPUT
    C:\MSINPUT\KEYBOARD\KBDCPL.EXE /S
    PROMPT $P$G
    C:\MOUSE\MOUSE SER 1
    D:
    CD D:\DUKE3D
    DUKE3D.EXE
    Lines 2,3,4 & 5 above are for my sound card. Just substitute what
    you need for your sound. Lines 7 & 8 are for my keyboard. Once
    again, just substitute your keyboard commands. The last three
    lines change to the drive & directory where Duke is and launch the
    program. The rest is just standard stuff.
    (Config.sys)
    FILES=30
    BUFFERS=35
    STACKS=9,256
    Hope you find this usefull, but if you don't, what the heck. It
    didn't take too long to try!!
  Mike.
