They're not firing him as then the union would become involved.

They're "moving him".

However the reality is that they should have "moved" Blair (Met
Boss). In fact both Blairs but that'd be political.

Problem is that the 2 are linked. Blair is very Blairite & was
appointed by Blair & it'd be yet another political blow to Blair were
Blair to be sacked for in effect being Blairite.
