SK> I would be interested in hearing more about this. Evaluating which
SK> methods work would be very useful. I wonder how they control for the
SK> fact that not every individual teacher has success, say, with
SK> cooperative learning. Maybe it's possible that such a teacher is not
SK> implementing the method correctly. How to their evaluations determine
SK> whether it's the method or the way it's being implemented that is at
SK> fault? Does it allow for, or recommend that,
SK> different teachers may want
SK> to use different methods. What works for one teacher doesn't work for
SK> every teacher?
SK> Curious,
One district in Florida that uses this program has a week long "Boot Camp"
for incoming teachers. This is to work them into teams I suppose as I am
just learning about the process. In my call to Joiner, (the publishers), I
said I would not post the worksheets, which are a major part of the book.
Then there is my own time limit also.
In chapter 5 there is a 5 stage plan for Process Improvement.
#1 Understand the Process
#2 Eliminate Errors
#3 Remove Needless Delays
#4 Reduce Variation
#5 Plan for Continuous Improvement
In the same chapter the Strategies
#1 Collect Meaningful Data
#2 Identify Root Causes of Problems
#3 Develop Appropriate Solutions
#4 Plan and Make Changes
#5 Identify Customer Needs and Concerns
#6 Study the Use of Time
#7 Localize Recurring Problems
#8 Describe a Process
#9 Develop a Standard Process
#10 Error-Proff a Process
#11 Streamline a Process
#12 Reduce Sources of Variation
#13 Bring a Process Under Statistical Control
#14 Improve the Design of a Process
#15 Check for Alignment
You must realize that I have just begun reading this book, I have read
Deming's works, but could never figure where to begin in an education
situation.
I presume since teachers work together on teams, they are responsible for a
majority of decisions as to how they should proceed in their class - as a
team, of course. For example, at Harley Davidson, the cylinder head team
decides who they contract with to cast the heads, they as a team decide the
quality standards, etc..
