subject: Fish acting... well, stra

I'll give you some history first. I had two completely non-aggressive fish
(one goldfish and the other is a shubunkin) who spend many an hour swimming
round our tank.

I have had many problems (the first morning I introduced the shubunkin he
made "look I'm dying here" movements until I introduced them into a bigger
tank with a filter. I also bought weed from a shop to make the tank look
nice and give something for the fish to nibble between meals, but this
turned out to be a wonderful "cut" variety (no roots) which died and was in
the process of rotting two days later. Lesson learned, don't buy cheap
weed.

The water went yellow and was showing leathal levels of ammonia. I did a
50% waterchange and put some ammonia absorbing rocks at the bottom.

About two months after the fish were introduced, I got a new fish (it was
black with big bobbly eyes. I'm not sure that's the technical name).

I diagnosed it with whitespot about two weeks after we got it. I took it
back the dealership who aggreed, offered to treat it (which I declined) and
he gave me some free whitespot chemicals. I treated the tank but the fish
died the next day. I continued to treat the tank and everything seemed fine
for the last month.

I do a weekly 10% waterchange (with added stress coat to remove chlorine
etc)

The water is going yellow again and the shubunkin is occasionally floating
to the top, looking like he's eating (not gasping) whilst swimming a bit
backwards...

When move towards the tank, the shubunkin swims straight to the bottom and
is quite happy to swim with the goldfish. It may be a game, but I suspect
not.

Oh, you can see my fish {at} http://neonet.neobard.info/webcam.php

Some people have suggested it may be the constant lack of privacy and fame
that is causing my fish stress. I don't think so. Does anyone have any
suggestions on either

1) why my tank goes yellow so quickly
2) why my fish are acting odd (is it whitespot again?)

the layout of my room is a bit like this:
______________
| |

|x |
-------------------

the "x" is the fish tank, the holes are windows. The windows have blinds
and the left hand blinds are angled away from the tank. The other window
does face the tank, and is a bit bright, but no direct sunlight as such.

Sorry for the long post & the absence of lurking...
