Serial ATA hard drives are more expensive than their older Parallel (ATAPI) ATA cousins... "it's faster, you should pay more!". "We used 8MB cache instead of 2MB - you should pay more!". Since SCSI is aimed at the enterprise level, and not the home consumer, they have little pressure to bring the prices down. An Ultra320 SCA Fujitsu 10K hard drive with 36GB is more expensive than a SATA 160GB drive now. That's 4.4x the capacity, and the average user isn't likely to have the hard drive as the performance bottleneck in their system, especially at the entry level. There, it's more likely the CPU, lack of RAM, or the video card. A faster SCSI will not likely come in cheaper than the "old" SCSI drives... of course, I may be proven wrong, but the history is there to prove they don't do that. Adaptec's highest-performance adapters are still in the same price range as they were 5 years ago... -Derek Derek W.
