| subject: | Lots of folks are still using their G3, G4, and G5 PPC Macs. |

Lots of folks are CS> still using their G3, G4, and G5 PPC Macs. Looks like they'll CS> be stuck with what they already have for software. I'm working on a G3 (one of the ones that looks like a bubble) and find that it too is pretty much limited to what it can be upgraded with. It currently has OS 9.0. I want to build wifi (w/WPA) support for it. The AirportAir only supports WEP and there are no guarantees that it would work with non-Apple routers. But the only products that support wifi (with WPA) properly require OSX. In order to get OSX, I need a bios update. A bios update will only work with OS 9.2 or greater. The installer for the 9.2 bios update requires a program similar to unzip. The original package unarchiver on the mac seems to be missing. So, I can't even install an upgrade unless I can accomplish a simple unarchive task! Alan is sending me pre-unarchived packages on disc. Hopefully that will solve the problem. But.. what a nuisance this whole thing is even with the OS 9.2 minimum requirement! CS> I'm going to try to get to the Apple store today to pick up CS> the new iMac but it may be tomorrow. Monday is usually the day CS> we put things together for the week.
