Yes.. I recall your mystery with that.  Was the G4 a desktop model? If so,
wouldn't it support a 3rd-party wifi card?

I tracked down a supplier of a usb wifi adapter that is guaranteed to work
with older G3's and up.   The minimum requirement is OS X 10.4, I think. 
So.. the goal is to get my meagre iMac G3 from OS 9.0 to 10.4 so that I
could then justify getting the adapter.
