Hi, August-

You're right, August. These days, all a Macintosh really is is a PC
running ¨a semi-proprietary operating system on proprietary hardware.
Apple has no real ¨distinctiveness in its computers. OS X is based on BSD,
as you said, and runs ¨on the Mach kernel. OS X is partly based on the
NeXTStep machine (remember ¨those) operating system.
So really, it's nothing new under the sun. If Apple was so revolutionary,
¨would people be able to "backport" their OS to run on standard
PCs? :)
(No, I'm not trying to start an argument here or flame. I'm just simply
¨stating facts except for my last sentence.)
However, if one likes Apple's products, more power to them.
Later,
Sean
