I've heard that the wind farm at Altamont Pass just east of Pleasanton,
California, is being at least partially dismantled for just that reason. 
Also 'noise pollution' (as if a diesel or steam powered plant is quiet).

The Altamont Pass area has historically had high winds because of warm air
rising from the state's central valley and cooler air from the SF Bay area
moving in to replace it.  It was a great place for a wind farm and IIRC
some of those turbines went up 25 or more years ago.
