should be supreme authority in that situation.  I know there are
times when the president on any level must make a decision
without consulting the membership; that's what we elect a
president and board for.  I also realize that sometimes debate
must be limited and that we must move on to other things.  Rarely
is there enough time for everyone to speak as much as they would
like, and sometimes it is indeed "Lonely at the top."  But like
you said, people will trust your judgement when you need to make
a decision on your own if you let them be involved as much as
possible at other times.  Of course there will always be a few
disgruntled people no matter what you do, but you can't please
them anyway so there's no point in worrying about it.
