BK> anymore.. best bet would be to find a horse doctor *not* large anima
MR>
MR> Why not cattle, Is that because they are slaughtered??? I know now that
MR> part bothers me and I told my boyfriend if you bring home meat from
MR> your Mom's from one of the cows that were slaughtered, I don't want to
MR> know where it came from or I WON'T EAT IT. Whole thing makes me want
MR> to be a vegetarian.
I think what he means is that the more you work with cattle, the more
you dislike them and DON'T wanna work with them! They are not as much fun as
horses, and are very frustrating for me.
But I think there is a better explanation, one that a recent graduate
shared with me. If a steer or cow gets very ill, the answer is usually
SLAUGHTER it. No one in their right mind will spend several hundred dollars
nursing a sick calf back to health. Horses are much more satisfying to work
with as you can use your skills and save some lives and make a difference.
And it pays better, I bet. The main reason I don't work on refrigerators is
because people will pour more money into an air conditioner or an ice machine
to fix it while they are willing to just go buy another refrigerator for less
than I would charge to change a compressor - well, okay, a USED refrigerator!
MR> Back on subject, I have yet to see a horse doctor around here that
MR> wasn't a LARGE animal vet. Do you know any in the Sacramento,
MR> Stockton, Elk Grove, Placer area??
We have several vets around here that have clinics that specialize in
horses, generally they are so pricey ands exclusive that horses are the ONLY
animal they deal with. And they will usually accept volunteers ANY TIME!
