On the 'Startrek' starship 'Enterprise', one of the decks is setup
as a virtual reality hologram for the crew to have R&R. This deck
may simulate a planet surface, or any environment in esquisite and
totally convincing detail compleat with animated forms, which also
are programmed by the ship's computer for crew members to interact
with. When a crew member is projected onto the holodeck, he might
remember that in 'actuality' he is one thing, while given the kind
of role he as, he may be quite another. Or he might, as Aristotle
and the Bagavad Gita suggests, totally forget where he came from.
It occurred to me that I was born on a holodeck. There is lots of
evidence. The holodeck is projected into three dimensions by some
kind of complex computer program. Every complex program has a few
bugs. This one is pretty good at keeping track of important stuff
like the floor, the sky, and the people I interact with, but it is
not so swift at small shit like car keys, pens, money, whatever.
As a result, stuff like this disappears, which sometimes reappears
to me, other times I forget about it, and it is history. Programs
also have trouble with random numbers, and there is a considerable
doubt they are capable of it. As a result, the same old shit just
keeps happening again and again. OTOH, strange shit happens which
is so weird it's way beyond the realm of reasonable probabilities;
so it is that Murphy's laws really do work- damn well. :-}
