It's not a rumour, I have seen video of these police doing this.

The USPS under Donald Trumps newly installed crony has removed sorting machines
and and stopped overtime and these actions have resulted in a slowdown of
postal service. Many in the US get their prescriptions by mail and they have
not been getting them delivered on time.

Mailboxes have been removed because it is said they are no longed needed.
