Replying to a message of Phil Payne to All: PP> From: Phil Payne PP> Irrespective of your view on the use that will be made of them, you PP> have to admire the guys who designed, built and fly them. PP> There was a really magical photo of one landing at Fairford this PP> morning - I don't know what the crosswind was but I bet the gear was PP> 20' out of line. For those unaware, the B-52's landing gear is centered on the fuselage, a 'bicycle' arrangement rather than the 'tricycle' arrangement seen on the vast majority of civilian aircraft (the only other one that comes to mind that has a similar arrangement is the U-2). The gear can rotate on its vertical axis in order to remain aligned with the runway even though the aircraft itself may be oriented considerably differently - as Phil noted. ---* Origin: Bob's Soapbox, Plattsmouth, Nebraska, USA (1:379/103.104) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/103 1 633/267 |
