DH> Question, what happens if we bomb an Iraqi Germ lab? The
DH> understanding I have of such action indicates that not everything
DH> would be destroyed, and the possibility exists that the biological
DH> agents would be released into the atmosphere. Anyone care to guess
DH> what would happen if our bombing caused such a release and this
DH> happened to kill a bunch of Iraqi civilians?
RB> Depends how it is done. An 'accident' (thoughtfully prepared by a SEAL
RB> team or "The Boys" from the Negev) could kill some of the population
RB> and DEFINITELY tip the biowar program. We could ship in CDC spacesuit
RB> teams to analyze and offer help to anyone not in uniform and/or not
RB> carrying an AK, and be once again THE GUYS IN THE WHITE HATS.
RB> A F-17/FB-111/B-52/fill in your favorite bomb platform run would also
RB> cause casualties and essentially cause the scenario you describe.
JH> My point is that we've got no reason to be in the Middle East. Let
JH> those other nations deal with the madman. We didn't even really have
JH> a good reason to do the Kuwait thing. Saudi Arabia's pretty well
JH> militarized, why didn't they go into action??
A military where officers receive rank not from ability in field but ability
at court and the enlisteds and sergeants are treated as serfs not soldiers is
not gonna be able to soak up Saddam &C for long.Beyond that, they show a dis-
taste for "trading space for time". This will get Saudi turned into Greater
Iraq's new provinces promptly. Add to that the Islamic significance of Mecca
and Medina, and the fact that we would truly be by the short and curlies
petrochemically speaking if Saudi fell... Frankly we need to be there for the
oil as well as the King, 'cuz Saudi could NOT take out Iraq.
JH> The entire Arab world hates us so let them fight their own wars. I
JH> also have a major beef with the UN and all those stupid sanctions.
JH> What business is it of ours? Let's get things in order in our own
JH> hemisphere, before we send American sons to fight some rich shieks'
JH> war.
Were it that easy.
