David,
BJ>> Even the cable is limited in its capacity.
DR>> Everything has a limit. However, fiber optic is "virtually
DR>> unlimited".
DW> 10 years later and Dave you will say that the traditional fiber optic
DW> is "virtually standing still"... :)
In 10 years, there will be another option. :)
BJ>> with anyone. Therefore you have to pay an ISP for the 24 hour
BJ>> dedicated bandwidth you use, whether you're at the keyboard or
BJ>> not. If that's T1 speed (1.554 Mbps), you'd pay the going rate
BJ>> for that. ADSL, like cable modems, is not switched technology
BJ>> (you don't "dial" anyone, you're connected 24 hours).
DR>> Interesting. Thanks for the info.
DW> No, no, no, don't thank him for the info yet... :) Read my info from
DW> a local teleco tech guy (He knows ADSL quite well... :) )...
DW> ADSL provides 6Mbps downstream (to you) 1.5Mbps upstream (from you)
Not bad, but still, with the cable modem your transfer capabilities
are the same both ways. Thanks for the info though.
DW> So CND$65 a month... not the regular T-1 rate, because you are not
DW> getting the extra IP address that you usually gets with T1...
You mean you don't get a static IP? Strange, as I have one with
the cable modem account.
