You have my sympathies (and my respect!). Best I've done was shortly
after Ringworld Engineers came out. A friend had been reading a copy
and said something about "Speaker-to-animals". Without thinking I said,
"no, that's Chmee". And to our mutual surprise, it came out *correctly*
(Ch was a "cough" and "mee" was definitely the proper feline sound, not
the silly human pronunciation"). 

But what gets scarier than being able to pronounce Kzinti, is being
able to *think* like a Kif. My friends get worried when I'm reading the
latter parts of the Chanur trilogy. :-)
