What is great for one person will be pure irritation for someone else.
It depends on many factors on which type you get. This is a whole
thread onto itself.

I'm still not overly impressed with the general quality. :-(

Actually they're done at high speed on duplicators that record several
at once. Since their alignment would be differnent, it would
prove/dissprove your walkmans' head alignment problem.
HB> I'm not sure what you mean by re-alignment. Are you talking about
HB> a physical defect where the head is not placed properly, or are you

In theory, the head MUST be perfectly perpendicular to the tape, ie the
head gap would be at 0 degrees to the tape (head gap facing up and down
vertically) travel. However, due to slight flexing of the tape,
manufacturing tollerances of the cassette etc, this isn't possible, but
often gross misalignment of portable equipment is more the norm then
manufactures would admit to. Add to that slight differences in
alignment tapes and it gets murky. Thus it's always better that the
portable match the home deck as far as head alignment goes for the best
overall preformance.

This is true of video heads. Haven't heard that of Cassette ones though.
HB> It uses a battery. In any case, my watch hasn't gone astray yet. :)
HB> (its a ridiculously expensive one so it had better not!).
Just about all manuals for bulk tape erasors and head degaussers say to
remove watches etc. I just can't afford to take the chance.
