-> Just wondering if I could get advice on a problem with my Stereo VCR.
I have one with an awfully similar problem. It will only record at EP, but it 
will play back a previously recorded tape at the correct speed. I suspect 
that it is a logic problem, though I haven't looked inot it. Not having a 
schematic has hampered my investigation--also the fact that I have another, 
working, VCR.
  Just a guess. PS, mine's an RCA--don't know who really built it.
