I have a question for you all. Is it possible that low self-esteem can be
a disorder of some type by itself? Or is low self-esteem only contributed
to by environmental and/or other disorders?
I decided to look into the low-self esteem thing. I don't know about my
family background since they are all in Germany. I only have my parents
and sister here. I have not seen any problems with them in that area
at all. But I do know that I have had it all of my life (as far back as
I can remember). Since I now know I am ADD I wonder if because I knew
I was different I developed it right off the bat or if there is any
genetic cause for it. It seems that it is built into my family as well.
This has been since my kids could crawl. Fears of all types such as walking
and talking and moving on to new things. I haven't done anything that I
can recall to bring this about in them. Always praising and telling them
they could do anything, as well as showing them. Of course, the two boys
are ADD/ADHD and the one girl doesn't seem to have this problem except when
she is wrong. She is a perfectionist and so am I. My husband somewhat has
this problem and one of his brothers also. I am somewhat interested in
Psychology and have always wondered why some people have this problem
without seeing any environmental reason for it. Some personality traits
seem to be genetic and so could the tendency for this also be genetic?
3 of my 4 kids seem to have this problem, but they all have disorders
associated with ADD/ADHD or manic depression. Yet the fourth one leans
only towards this tendency associated with her perfectionism.
I was wondering what ya all think and if anyone knows of any research done
on this. Thanks
Regina
