I have spotted USB drivers for DOS in my wanderings about the
WWW but have not used/tested any of them.

In that once Microsoft and it's people began to view DOS ways
of managing the hardware and data as better than any others,
yes all of Microsoft's OS seem dos-based or at best dos-think. 

Relocateable lookup tables for irqs and vectors of infinite
size, block transfers where appropriate and streaming for all
others with the OS focusing on management of resources rather
than management of hardware would've given us a more flexible
OS. Use of alternate file formats such as NTFS, ext2fs, FAT,
HPFS, or any file system we wanted to access would involve
nothing more than a 'plugin' (daemon?) rather than what we must
deal with now.
