From: "Frank Haber" Best wishes for a good outcome! I had a six-month recovery from more than a month in critical care, about six years ago. The symptoms when I started were very much like a stroke - weakness, loss of dexterity. What helped me a lot was a spirit of play, and a complete abandonment of any false dignity and pride. When I literally had to teach myself to brush my teeth again, I could have gotten mad as hell. Instead (and I was lucky this way), I just marvelled and laughed at myself, and at the process of "going through childhood at hyperspeed." Praise be, it took only an hour to learn the toothbrush, over two mornings. It took three mornings to re-learn how to shave. Typing took a bit longer; I dragged out an old laptop with a heavy touch and VT-100-ish keytops to practice on. It helped to have someone else around the house to join in the goofiness, and not mind my muscular "second childhood." The Latins I know had a better reaction than the Anglos - "Oh, you were born again! How lucky you are." Well, not exactly lucky - but I could see what they meant. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-4* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/1.45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/1 633/267 |
