I've got a DOD FX7, but it's not variable enough (in a LOT of ways).  It has 
a LOT of sounds in it, and all of them are "almost right."  But, you can't 
vary the settings much.  I still use my ancient MXR Dynacomp, for example, 
because the compressor in the FX7 just doesn't cut it.
I've decided I need to find the effects I want in individual stomp boxes and 
ditch the FX7.
The delays built into the FX7 don't have enough delay time options, and you 
can't get to an LFO unless you put it in "chorus" mode.  There is no 
continously variable control on anything - only widely separated distinct 
settings.
You're right about most of the stomp boxes not having any LFO at all.  I 
haven't found one yet that does, which is why I finally asked here if anyone 
knew of one that did.
