subject: REXX QUESTION

I am trying to write a small REXX program to access the com port.
I would like to know if there is a way to find out if any data is waiting
to be read from teh com port. LINEIN and CHARIN both block until input is
available from the com port. CHARS or LINES always return a value of 1
regardless of whether or not data is available. I am opening
"COM2" with the
stream function.

I want my program to be able to time out if no data is received.
Does anybody have a way to do this?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
