AA> "What's in a name? that which we call a rose AA> By any other name would smell as sweet." Yep - I certainly refer to my iPad as a 'tablet'.... but I think the point is that, for consumers, there's a market for iPads - which is not really being impacted by the flood of 'tablets' running Android, BLackberry QNX, WebOS, Windows, etc... and that all those other 'tablets' are competing with one another for a smaller market - so, for instance, the Toshiba Thrive that JP is writing about may take market share from Samsung's Galaxy or Motorola's Xoom, but isn't really stealing customers from the iPad. Especially since they are all clustered around the iPads' price points. If the various Android models were priced at $350 (or less) while the iPad is priced starting at $500 (and up), there might be more competition - the clamour for HP's models when they were marked down to fire-sale $99/149 was interesting. I've looked at a 7" Chinese Android tablet being marketed at sub-$200... but the reviews were absolutely horrid, so I avoided it. --- Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.7; rv:5.0) Gecko/20110624 Thunder* Origin: Fidonet Via Newsreader - http://www.easternstar.info (1:123/789.0) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 @PATH: 123/789 500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
