| subject: | Moving into OS/2 program |

(-: CH> > I already have a compiler that can do OS/2 > apps, (Watcom C/C++ 10.0) but what I'm sadly lacking is > documentation on the structure and APIs of OS/2. CH> The APIs are pretty regular. There are several good books on OS/2, and no doubt you will be showered with recommendations. Like David Noon, I recommend the Online Book Collection as a primary reference. There's a lot of gold buried in there, if you know where to look. For example, the exact reason why DOS programs cannot write to the hard disc directly (I pick a topical subject entirely at random.) can be found in the Virtual Device Driver reference. There are also plenty of other references, the most famous of which is _Real_World_Programming_for_OS/2_. There are other equally good ones, and a couple of new ones have just come out (unfortunately, I have only seen other people's copies, far too briefly to note down details). CH> > (Why are there so few 3rd party books on OS/2 programming, anyways?) CH> Partly because there is in fact a whole heap of official documentation circulated by IBM. An "Undocumented DOS" equivalent for OS/2 would be very thin. > JdeBP < ___ X MegaMail 2.10 #0: --- Maximus/2 2.02* Origin: DoNoR/2,Woking UK (44-1483-725167) (2:440/4) SEEN-BY: 12/2442 620/243 624/50 632/348 640/820 690/660 711/409 410 413 430 SEEN-BY: 711/807 808 809 934 942 949 712/353 515 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 440/4 141/209 270/101 396/1 3615/50 229/2 12/2442 711/409 808 809 934 |
