KR> First of all, someone at least reply if this is getting out.
I don't think it is =)
KR> Now I just want to know 2 things:
uh, that's three.
KR> 1) I will be porting my Dos BBS to a Win 95 computer. Is it best to keep
KR> bnu 1.70, max dos and fd and run it under a dos window, or should I
KR> change something in that formula?
first of all, win95 is a terrible platform for a bbs (i've run max under dos,
desqview, win95, and os/2 now). If you want the best one, go with Os/2. The
bbs has never been more stable or faster ;)
When i was running win95, i had all dos programs. If you run win95-native and
dos programs, then while the programs are switching win95 hangs up or
something. It doesn't work. Either go with an all win95 (don't reccomend this
at all) or an all dos one.
KR> 2) For DOS based doors, I hear you can't run them under the win95
 KR> version. True or false?
True. If you want to run dos doors, run max for dos. You also need to run a
dos front door. Just run everything in dos, it's the easiest way, and if you
get sick of '95 (i'm sure you will) all it takes is a deltree windows and
maybe a couple config changes and you can run in dos.
KR> 3) This time for general doors. Is it best to run the doors via an
KR> xtern_erlvl with my batch files, or is it safer to run them directly via
KR> an xtern_dos cmd to load up the batch file?
I use xtern_dos for all my doors. (you can only use xtern_run to call
.exe/.com's .. since most of my doors use a bat file,...)
You really only need xtern_errlvl if you're really tight on memory. If you're
running win95, then you need at least 8 megs ram, so you're not =)
