Oliver Twist time is it ? (-:

PE>
  > like what is OWL? What is Object Vision? What is MFC?
PE>

OWL is Object Windows Library (a class library, written by Borland and
bundled with its compiler). Object Vision is I believe a discontinued
  application (if I recall correctly).

MFC is Microsoft Foundation Classes, which (like OWL) is a proprietary
class library shipped with Microsoft's compiler. MFC makes no
pretenses (unlike OWL) of covering more than one platform, however.

[ For those that are lurking, yes I *know* that Watcom licences MFC
off Microsoft to bundle with its compiler. That doesn't make MFC
any more portable or any less proprietary, I'm afraid. ]

PE>
  > Also things like what are the major compilers available,
PE>

All of the major C++ compilers are listed on the Pros and Cons list
  AFAIAA.

I have a sort of ad hoc list of other tools for other languages that I
have gradually accreted over the years, but I would prefer to leave it
to someone else to do (say) a PASCAL compiler Pros and Cons list. (-:

PE>
  > major assemblers, major things like Guidelines.
PE>

Assemblers are WASM (Watcom), TASM/BASM (Borland) and IBM MASM.

As I said in the Glossary, if you want to know about Guidelines, pick
up the GUIDOC.ZIP file and read. It's too long to post here, really
-- certainly far too long for a simple glossary.

PE>
  > What is the Resource Toolkit?
PE>

Resource Workshop is the name of one of Borland's tools, shipped with
its compiler. Were you referring to something else ?
