Hello Paul,

RS> I think the Modem SuperStor still does. As usual, cant put
RS> my hand on a recent ad of theirs when I want one, but they
RS> certainly used to have that in round device in the ad itself.

JT> I've found their number, I'll give them a call and see what they can work
 JT> out. Thanks.

JT> PS I've just come back and tested a new modem, a tossup between the

JT> hayes, USR and the Netcom. I have the USR first, so far, one failed call

PE> Does this cryptic message say that Modem SuperStor has let you borrow
PE> those 3 modems before you buy them?

Sort of (only one modem), I have a week to decide if I want to keep it or not.

PE> I was going to suggest you can
PE> swap with my Netcomm for a while, since I am now satisfied that I have
PE> the test results I wanted (basically, disabling MNP10 fixes the major
 PE> problem with hanging).

That was going to be next on the list, I've only had one unexplained
non-connect so far (been worked out since), but the fax adaptive answering
seems to be at bit better than the banksia..

PE> If I had my time again, I would buy a Yum Cha
PE> modem, instead of kidding myself that the extra money spent to get a
PE> sysop-deal on an expensive modem was actually going to achieve
 PE> something.

Paul, I work with a company that the salespeople thought it would be fun to
sell yumcha modems. I have to fix them. If they are not under warranty,
(where they are sent to the supplier) they are written off.

Without being derogatory to anyone, the only comment I can make about the
yumcha's is that they are nothing short of completely and absolutely fucked
in every way imaginable. They wouldn't be suitable even for a suppository.
The banksia OTOH, would be very suitable for a suppository, as its edges are
much more smooth. A very important consideration.

PE> BTW, someone has called about 5 times in the last hour, and is getting
PE> a fax connection, which is taking about 10 minutes before it drops
PE> out. You aren't trying out a shit-box USR are you?
 PE> BFN. Paul.

Yes I am, but no it wasn't me calling. Either way I wouldn't wait 10 minutes
before trying again. My tolerance to non-functional modems at the moment is
almost nil no thanks to the banksia, I would wait maybe 10 seconds before
chucking the thing out the window.
BTW, anyone want my banksia? Four rom upgrades, one board mod and much head-
banging-against-walls later, I'm rid of the thing like one would be glad to
be rid of a tumor. Suitable as comfortable suppository. Caution, extended use
may cause brain damage. Going cheap.
