AH=>I would like to hear opinions about Hunters. I've heard that
AH=>they haven't been very good boats
AH=>but I've also heard that they've really cleaned up their act over
AH=>the last few years.
I've never thought much of Hunters... and the bad "rap" they got was
well deserved - they really were not very good boats; the Bayliners of
sail (and even Bayliner had to improve their quality back to where it
"used" to be)
While I was looking for a boat last fall, one of our club members - a
broker - offered a Hunter to me in the same price range as the Jeanneau;
I said, "I don't think so!", or words to that effect. She mentioned
she was aware of the Hunter lagacy, and how SHE wouldn't really get on a
Hunter either, never mind consider buying one - until she had gone for a
sail on this one she was offering me and she WAS impressed. Seems there
are Chevys, Buicks, and Cadillacs in the Hunter line. The boat that
says on the side "Hunter" is a Chevy - pretty basic, but still pretty
(that's what sell 'em!) and not very well made. Then there's the Hunter
Legend series... quite a bit better, equal to a Catalina perhaps?
Finally, there's the Passage series... supposedly the name Passage means
that the boat can do just that!... "passage"making!
These views are not mine and I'm simply relating what I was told in a
brief (2 minute) explanation on why I shouldn't shy away from a Hunter
boat.... then again, this WAS froma broker who was looking at 10%
commission on the sale; and she knew I'd already put an offer on the
Jeanneau - so there was no doubt I was serious about buying and that
would give her some incentive to "push"!
The Vision series?... no data - sorry l'il fella!
