subject: Thanks Steven for : USB Modem/Cell Phone -- Problem Solved

Hi Steven,

Boy am I glad I retained the following message of yours!
For the past couple of years I have had an ISDN connection [just a
single 64KB BRI-channel] here - the Network Termination Unit [includes a
digital "modem"- ADCDAC] came with both RS232C and also USB
connectors, supposedly - according to the thick printed manual and all
electronic documentation [CD & www], both give equivalent
all-digital-path performance for 64KB, USB only has an advantage when
128KB multilink PPP, as that exceeds usual 115,200 UARTs. After about a
year the initial NTU packed it in, and was replaced by the Telco, that
one only lasted about 8 months, and since then there have been a further
two replacement units! In addition to having an ISP who didn't actually
support ISDN per se, just allowed me to connect at 64Kb as per my
previous PSTN Dialup account, AU$9.90/month capped at AU$23.90, I also
didn't have any other USB equipment until very recently, when I found a
512MB Legend [identified by the USBRES as an Apacer] PenDrive Pro for
AU$115 + s&h, so never really bothered about checking out the USB
connectivity until about an hour ago - we'd had about 7"-8" rain/flash
flooding day before yesterday [Tuesday evening here] and I was getting
carrier drops on my associated voice line, as well as virtually zero
inbound or outbound rates with it conected via RS232C on COM1!

Found out that eCSConet from e.g. eCS 1.x just would not recognise the
USB connectivity to the NTU, even after dropping the SIO2K in favour of
IBM's current COM/VCOM.sys, and appending /N:COM3, so back again with
the old standby my SOHO InJoy 2.30 from Sept 1999! Immediate
connectivity and a lot smoother too!

I guess I could try it out also with my original SIO 1.60D drivers, then
I'd also have the PMLM etc working again!

So thanks again Steven, your post from last July 30th [here] came in
exceptionally handy!! I hadn't seen anything about switches for that
driver on any of my past forays.

BTW what dialler are you using with that phone's modem?
