Hi Greg,
GM> okay, i'll go through this step-by-step..
Thanks a lot!
It did help me understanding things better.
GG> My fileareas and messageareas are ordered in groups.
GG> What command-string do I have to use to let my users first choose
GG> a group? I mean an option with an own hotkey.
GM> You're thinking R-R-RemoteAccess (scream! sorry, i said the naughy
GM> word)
:-))
I'm aware of the very long existing animosity towards RA and v.v.
If I remember well, my old Opus-friends already demonstrated it
many years ago. In fact, RA isn't really bad, but it hasn't an
OS/2 version.
GM> Maximus only uses the Change Area command, there is no "change
GM> Group" like that stupid software.. ;)
Too bad. :-)
GM> You can group areas (both file and message) with Divisions.
I did. And I found from a german author (Alex Woick) a util called
XAREA, which is a MEX to change area and/or division by cursor-
movement.
GM> FileDivisionBegin DOS Twit . DIVISION: DOS and Windows areas
GM> FileArea WIN
GM> [..]
GM> End MsgArea
GM> FileDivisionEnd
Got it.
But I don't understand why there isn't an option like CHG_DAREA
to just change division.
GG> Please don't tell me, I have to write my own MEX. I'm not a
GG> programmer and do not understand Maximus' own programming language.
GM> Actually, if you really want to change it so it mimmicks RA (for
GM> whatever reason... beats me why you'd want to make a good bbs seem
GM> bad),
One has to nourish ones prejudices to stay in good health. :-)))))
GM> then you'd have to write a SERIOUS mex program.. it would
GM> take a long time anyways.. ;)
No, I will restrict myself in using those nice utils, other people
made. In my early days, I've tried to do some programming; first in
superbasic with my dear old ZX Spectrum and later some care small
steps in C. Sooooooooooo many hours work and than noticing some other
guy made already what I was writing, better and with more nice options,
I could think of. It was than, I gave up all self-programming and
decided just using programs/utils others made.
GM> I really hope this helps you out, if not, just ask about anything
GM> that's not clear and i'll explain it further..
You made me see things more clear.
Thanks again.
Undoubtfully, new questions will come..... :-)
Kind regards,
Guus
