Hello Jonathan !
NC>> A PSX and a big TV is still alot cheaper
NC>> [value for money!] than a basic PC and a 17" (or smaller) moniter.
JF> But consider this:
JF> - A PC game's image is clearer & sharper; most console games are
JF> 320x200, or at best 320x200 interpolated to 640x480.
A 15" screen is still a bit tiny though, bigber is better for full on action
gaming, do you not agree?
I know Sega Rally is a lot more involving on the 21" in my bedroom than the
14" portable in the other room. :)
JF> - PC sound often offers more bang for the buck. A $350 (Canadian)
JF> Cambridge Soundworks speaker system is probably a lot beefier than a
JF> $350 stereo.
I /think/ that works out at approximately 150 UK pounds and I've just bough
myself a nice hi-fi seperates tuner/amplifier for 85 UK to power my 100W
(RMS) speakers (50 UKs).
The sound quality from even the low end of seperates components is better
than any plastic cased 'PC' sound systems.
[Just don't put the speakers too close to the moniter or TV or you'll warp
the screen, unless the magnets are screened for AV use]
JF> - You use more than just games on a PC.
Indeed. Surf the Web, Fidomailing, the list goes on.
I still prefer a nice big Mac though. ;)
JF> I'm not sure if one's advantages outweighs the other, but the PC is
JF> not such a waste of money as a gaming rig as it might seem.
Theres some nice stuff and the titles usually /are/ cheaper (due to the size
of the market place) but then you have to weigh it up with the initial cost
and on-going upgrade costs of a PC to keep it cutting edge enough to play the
neat new games.
Where as console developers are squeezing every last drop out of their code
and the hardware, but the software is slightly higher in cost to start with
(then goes cheaper in the Platinum range...)
