3 meg of what? Is that 3 meg of files backed up, or 3 meg written to tape?
Some of the better backup programs mix the actual files with restoration
data and write that to the tape. The transfer rate remains constant, but the
backup rate changes as there is (for example) 1 meg of error-correction/
reduntant data per 5 meg of actual files.
Arcada (Win95), NovaBack (Win95 and OS2) and the DOS backup program I got
ith
the drive all backed up at almost the exact same rate (between 13.1 and 13.2
meg per minute).
All three have different backup formats BTW (could account for the .1 meg
difference).
