| subject: | Re: Convolution in Gene C |
Wendell asks: >I read some speculation that the encoding of information in the genes >may involve some form of convolution, making the information more >resistant to degredation. > >I'd like to follow up on this, but keyword searches for "genetic" >along with "convolution", "coarse coding", and so forth have come up >dry. > >Can anyone give me a lead on this? The word you want to include in your searches is "palindrome," not "convolution." Once you do that, you should retrieve thousands of references. Among these references will be an announcement made just about a month regarding the information contained on the human Y chromosome. Some of it too is palindromic and is apparently being used as an internal error-correction mechanism. For a more technical overview of the process, see: http://www.nature.com/cgi-taf/DynaPage.taf?file=/nature/journal/v423/n6942 /full/423810a_r.html (WTW) and for a more general description, see: http://www.marshill.org/Y%20Chromosome%20Error%20Correction.htm Wirt Atmar --- þ RIMEGate(tm)/RGXPost V1.14 at BBSWORLD * Info{at}bbsworld.com --- * RIMEGate(tm)V10.2áÿ* RelayNet(tm) NNTP Gateway * MoonDog BBS * RgateImp.MoonDog.BBS at 7/22/03 12:08:43 AM* Origin: MoonDog BBS, Brooklyn,NY, 718 692-2498, 1:278/230 (1:278/230) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 278/230 10/345 106/1 2000 633/267 |
