JT> I had another dropout in the middle of a menu last
JT> night, my modem reported a "normal" disconnect by remote.

RS> Sure, that can certainly happen, most obviously with
RS> the other end rebooting, on a power flick or whatever.

Yeah, but I call back on another line where it works.

JT> Is this where I get paranoid and suspect a conspiracy?

RS> Yeah, its Telstra deliberately disconnecting calls so they get
RS> another 25c call charge charge racked up when you call back.

I've heard from techos that they sometimes do that, if they happen to be
testing the equipment and notice a modem, oops I just trashed that call, oh
dear they will have to call again.
Granted, it didn't happen too often, at least that's what he told me, good
for his sake otherwise I would have been likely to punch his lights out.

JT> The next connect on another line was at 26.4 with level of
JT> -30dBm, EQ of 3. It worked fine. I didn't get stats of the first
JT> bad one, what should I be expecting for the eye quality number?

RS> It aint an absolute once its been filtered thru the rather
RS> inadequate way that modem chipsets get to measure it.

 Just my luck. :-(
