Two rare Texana Books:
Thr XIT Ranch of Texas by J. Evetts Haley - First Edition 1929 - Details the
history of early Texas and the largest ranch in the world (at that time).
This ranch was comprised of ten counties in the panhandle of Texas that were
sold/traded to an Illinios bank to fund construction of the State Capitol
building in Austin. All pictures and maps intact. The book comes with a 1951
news clipping when it was auctioned, and a news clipping when the author
died. I am told there are only 8 copies left of this rare first edition. The
rest were pulled from the shelves due to a lawsuit in which the author won
the case. Condition is good/fair. Price is negotiable.
The Battles for Peace - Pat M. Neff - Only Edition 1925 - This book is a
chronicle of times of The Governor of Texas, Pat M. Neff. It is signed:
'Compliments of Pat M. Neff' on the fist inside page, in black ink, and this
appears authentic when compared to his signature on documents from the era.
It appears that he used a quill to sign. Governor Neff initiated the contest
for a state song. He also helped begin the Texas Highway Commission, helping
build State highways. He was also responsible for our Texas parks. He
proposed that license plates be made in Huntsville. After reading this book,
it becomes apparent this Governor was highly instrumental in building the
state of Texas into the great state it is. The book cover is not in the best
condition, but all pages are intact. Price is negotiable.
As stated, the prices are negotiable, even though they are high. Just a heads
up for those low bidders, no, $20 is not a resonable offer.
