I think TMP was simply the product of a lengthy series of compromises,
including the fact that the script was originally prepared for
television. The production was switched to a theatrical movie fairly
late in the game.
Were TMP 15-20 minutes shorter, it would be a better story, although a
pretty short movie. ;-)
