Lord yes!  It didn't hurt them then and it won't now.  After all, John,
and explosion is an explosion!  Low compression, low octane explosions
are just less violent; the fuel burns slower.
I'd put the best OIL available in an "A" and it'd run forever!  High
octane fuel though, would not be as gentle on the engine.
