| subject: | msgids in timEd |
Bad news folks. The message reader 'timEd', by Gerard van Essen
(2:281/527{at}fidonet), is currently generating invalid MSGID serial numbers.
The MSGIDs currently being generated by timEd are therefore in violation of
FTS-9.
Starting from July 9, 1995 at ~07:13, timEd's MSGID serial number
generating algorithm rolled over from 'ffffffff' to '0'. But instead of
generating
^aMSGID: 3:633/267.1 000001e4
timEd generates
^aMSGID: 3:633/267.1 1e4
instead. FTS-9 requires the serial number to be be an eight character
hexadecimal number; this is three characters, violating the standard.
Judging by the brief testing I performed, it appears the invalid MSGID
serial numbers will cease on January 19, 1996 at ~10:33. The version I
tested was 1.01, but it appears older (beta) versions of timEd contain this
bug, as well as the 'NetMgr' program (also written by Gerard).
