  Looks like... it was rather significant that it failed after
sending two particular sizes: 6 or 7 blocks each time, and then fails 
in the next one... except in the first one where it sent 8 blocks and
failed at the beginning of the 9th.

  I bet your buffer is 8192.

  Does it work okay with no EC at higher speeds?
